Why does Janie care about the mule so much?
Janie cares about Matt Bonners mule because she saw herself in the mule. The mule was very mistreated and worn out. One day when the mule gets lost people start to taunt it and mess around with it. When Janie sees this she can’t help but feel bad for it. Jody then buys the mule for 5 dollars. Janie wants to save the mule from cruelty because she sees similar mistreatment. The mule works in the field all day and has malnutrition, and Janie must work in the town store. I found it strange how the mule died though, with its hooves facing the air.
